How to Launch a TikTok Shop in the UK: Step-by-Step Guide

Will ShonnWill ShonnCo-Founder, BeaSocial · Updated

TikTok Shop has become a serious retail channel in the UK, and the brands winning on it are not necessarily the biggest. They are the ones who set up properly and get creators posting early.

Here is the sequence we use to take brands from zero to selling, refined across 50+ brands, with what we have learned at each step along the way.

Step 1: Register and pass verification

Register on TikTok Shop Seller Centre with your company details, VAT registration and bank information. UK-registered businesses are usually verified within a few days.

Category approval matters here. Controlled categories such as food and drink, supplements and cosmetics need extra documentation, and getting this wrong is the most common cause of stalled launches. Our food and drink guide goes into that category in detail.

Step 2: Build listings that convert and rank

TikTok Shop has its own search, and listings are ranked by relevance and conversion. That means keyword-rich titles, benefit-led descriptions, clean imagery and prices tested against the impulse-buy threshold. Bundles and multipacks usually outperform single units because they raise average order value without raising the cost of acquiring the customer.

Keyword research should feed more than the listing. For Lipton we built a keyword bank that ran through the listings, video captions and every creator brief, so the product showed up wherever buyers searched. We treat product strategy and shop SEO as a service in its own right for this reason.

Step 3: Sort fulfilment before you sell

TikTok Shop enforces strict shipping and cancellation standards, and shops that miss them lose visibility. Decide early between self-fulfilment, a 3PL or Fulfilled by TikTok.

Plan stock for success, not just for launch day. Lipton's Ice Tea range sold out during its two-hour opening LIVE. That is the outcome you want, but only if you can restock and keep shipping on time afterwards.

Step 4: Get creator affiliates posting

This is the step most brands get wrong by waiting. Affiliate creators post shoppable videos and earn commission on the sales, and their content is the main way buyers discover products on TikTok Shop. Open an affiliate plan with a competitive commission, get product to creators in your niche, and have the first wave of content live within your first fortnight.

Timing and quality matter as much as volume. For ManiLife we had 20 carefully chosen affiliates posting in the same two-day window around a limited-edition drop, alongside founder-led content, and it sold out in two days with no paid spend. For Dr. Will's we went wide instead, with 200+ affiliates creating daily content, and GMV grew 425%.

Keep creators engaged between campaigns. We run a community of 10,000+ creators on Discord, with competitions, prizes and spotlights that keep people posting. Our creator and affiliate service covers how that works.

Step 5: Go LIVE and put spend behind what works

LIVE selling converts better than almost anything else on the platform, because the host demonstrates the product and answers questions in real time. Start with a regular weekly slot with a trained host, then add frequency as the data comes in. A single wellness-led LIVE for Pukka generated £4K in GMV, with 87.8% of buyers new to the brand.

Only put paid spend behind proven winners. GMV Max on creator videos that have already sold organically scales profitably; cold creative usually does not. The winning videos are worth reusing on Meta too.

Our first 90 days, month by month

If you want to see how the steps above fit together in practice, this is the plan we run:

  • Month 1, build and test: onboard and brief creators, test hooks, launch the first creator competition, produce the first GMV Max creative, and identify the strongest products and offers.
  • Month 2, scale and optimise: prioritise the creators who performed, switch on GMV Max, start LIVE selling, and refine hero products and bundles.
  • Month 3, scale the winners: double down on the hooks, products and creators driving GMV, reuse winning creative on Meta, and review the full 90 days to plan what comes next.

How long does all this take?

With focus, a brand can go from nothing to first sales inside a month, and to real momentum by month three. Across our brands, average GMV growth over the first six months is more than 300% following this sequence.

If you would rather skip the learning curve, a specialist TikTok Shop agency runs every step above as standard.
