TikTok Live Selling: Why It Converts and How to Do It Properly

Will ShonnWill ShonnCo-Founder, BeaSocial · Updated

Live selling is the most misunderstood lever on TikTok Shop. Done badly, it is someone reading product specs to an empty room. Done properly, it can be the highest-converting channel a brand runs. McKinsey found companies reporting live commerce conversion rates approaching 30%, up to ten times higher than conventional ecommerce (McKinsey, 2021).

We have delivered more than 5,000 hours of live selling with trained hosts and moderators, and were ranked a Top Live TikTok Shop Partner by TikTok Shop in Q4 2025. Here is what actually makes it work.

Why live selling converts

Three forces stack together in a LIVE. Urgency: live-only offers and limited stock give people a reason to buy now. Demonstration: viewers see the product used in real time, which removes the doubt that stops people buying online. Trust: a host answering questions live is the closest thing online to a market stall, and TikTok audiences buy from people, not logos.

TikTok also gives LIVE plenty of distribution because it keeps people on the platform, so a well-run LIVE reaches viewers that organic video has to fight for.

What we have learned from 5,000+ hours

A theme beats a product demo. For Pukka we built a wellness-led LIVE for Mental Health Awareness Month, with a free mug as a gifting incentive. That single session generated £4K in GMV, drew 20K+ LIVE views, and 87.8% of the buyers were new to the brand.

The opening LIVE sets the tone. Lipton launched on TikTok Shop with a two-hour opening broadcast, and the Ice Tea range sold out during it: the first of two complete sell-outs, on the way to 5,000% revenue growth.

The host matters more than the set. Viewers stay for someone who knows the product, tries it on camera, and keeps talking to the audience even when only a handful of people are watching.

What a high-converting LIVE looks like

The LIVEs that sell share a structure:

  • A trained host who knows the product inside out and never stops selling, whether 40 or 4,000 people are watching.
  • A clear product rotation with price anchoring and offers that only exist on the stream.
  • Constant interaction: greeting people as they join, answering questions by name, running giveaways at the right moments.
  • A moderator handling comments and questions so the host can keep selling.
  • Consistency: going live on a regular schedule so the audience builds the habit, and the account builds momentum.

How brands scale it

The progression we take brands through is a regular weekly slot to find the format, then more sessions a week as conversion settles, then a full schedule with rotating hosts once the numbers prove out. Stock and fulfilment have to scale in step, because a strong LIVE can clear a range in one session.

Most brands cannot staff this in-house, which is why we run live selling as a managed service with trained hosts and moderators, on its own or as part of our wider TikTok Shop agency programmes.
